-A lecture given by Dr. Amy S. Bower, as part of the lecture series tribute to Dr. Fritz Schott. This first of a series of lectures has been initiated by IFM-GEOMAR in Kiel, Germany as a tribute to the great life of oceanographer Prof Fritz Schott. His colleague, Dr. Amy S. Bower from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, gave the first lecture.

The presentation was about the transport of deep waters from the Subpolar North Atlantic to the equator through the Deep Western Boundary Current in the Labrador Sea along the eastern side of North America. Understanding the oceanographic characteristics of the Deep Western Boundary Currents is significant in addressing the transport and distribution of deep waters, which affect the deep ventilation of oceans, global carbon cycle, and oceanic and atmospheric circulation.
